Making time for family

All of us are part of a family, and families can take many forms. Sometimes, you may think of your family as the people who live with you in your house, like parents, siblings, grandparents, or other relatives. Sometimes, your “family” might be a bigger group of people, like the members of your sports team, a close group of friends at school, or the people in your neighborhood or church. You might even have people that you consider “family” in other parts of the world.

Regardless of who or where they are, your family members are important contributors to your mental health and well being. If you are feeling down, they may be able to help you, even if it’s just to listen. Sometimes, just knowing that there’s someone in your corner who “has your back” can give you the strength you need to keep going forward.

There are other times, though, when turning to family members for help is difficult… either because they are the ones causing you distress or because you don’t feel safe talking to them.
